Your Path to Recovery

Assessment

Your path to recovery begins with a thorough assessment of your condition. We assess how your condition or injury is affecting you and what results you want from your treatment. We then give you a detailed, straightforward explanation of your problem and discuss the treatment options and evidence based techniques available to treat your condition.

Treatment

As every person is different we then work with you one-on-one to develop a personalised treatment plan that is manageable and designed to get the desired results. This will have a strong focus on self-management, with you being supported to apply strategies to abolish your pain in your daily life. Your treatment may consist of exercises to reduce your pain, postural correction, manual therapy mobilisation, exercises to develop strength and flexibility, and education.

Prevention

Finally we give you all the information and self-management tools and techniques to reduce the risk of recurrences, and to know what to do if they do occur.

For Practitioners

At Celia Monk Physiotherapy, our goal is to work with you to provide quality care and better outcomes for your patients.

We are qualified and experienced in the effective and evidence-based treatment of spinal pain, post-operative care, sports, work and musculoskeletal injuries. In 2021 Celia gained her Master of Physiotherapy degree with distinction from Otago University. She was awarded the Walker Postgraduate prize for her research, which explored supporting self-management for people with low back pain.

As a McKenzie practitioner Celia Monk is uniquely qualified to help patients with back and neck conditions, and problems in the peripheral joints which are of a mechanical nature.

Celia is also a member of the Physiotherapy New Zealand and Sports Physiotherapy NZ.

We undertake to provide your patient with the best possible treatment we can offer; to respect their rights, including their privacy in all matters; and to keep them informed of all decisions made in relation to them and their condition, including contact with their doctor or specialists.

From small beginnings, the McKenzie Method is now used by practitioners and patients all over the world for back pain, neck pain and extremity pain problems.

The McKenzie Method

80% of all people will experience back pain at some stage of their life. 75% can benefit from self treatment. The McKenzie Method uses a philosophy of active patient involvement to treat back pain, neck pain and extremity problems. Also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), the McKenzie Method is a 3 step process designed to give you the knowledge, tools and techniques you need to self treat and control your back and neck pain and manage your condition to prevent recurrence.

The McKenzie Method was the result of an accidental discovery by a physiotherapist named Robin McKenzie while treating a back patient. He realised he had seen a simple but yet undiscovered process for the treatment of mechanical back and neck problems.
